Prescribing policy

What we prescribe, and what we do not

Prescribing decisions come after an evaluation, and the prescriber explains the risks of any medicine before you choose. These are the rules of this office, in plain words. They are the same for every patient.

The rules

Six rules that do not change

  1. An evaluation comes first

We do not prescribe before an evaluation. If you arrive with a medicine already started, we go through it at the first visit before we renew it.

  2. Controlled medicines are handled apart

We are licensed in Nevada, and we do not start a controlled medicine at a video visit. A controlled medicine is considered only after an in-person visit, where state and federal law allow.

  3. Refills happen at visits

Refills are written at follow-up visits. A request between visits goes through the office and is not promised.

  4. Labs when the medicine calls for them

If a medicine needs a blood test, we ask for it and explain why. We do not order tests that do not matter for the choice.

  5. The pharmacy is yours

Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose, and you can change it at any time.

  6. Please do not stop on your own

Some medicines should be lowered slowly. Call the office first, and the prescriber will plan any change with you.

Questions

Three questions about this policy

Why not a controlled medicine at a video visit?

Because we want to see you in person first. The prescriber can explain the reasons at your evaluation.

Can I transfer my care here?

Yes. Your first visit is an evaluation, and we go through what you take before we renew anything.

Who can I call with a question about a medicine?

The office, during hours. For anything urgent, call 988 or 911.

Read it, then ask

If a rule here is a problem for you, tell us before you book and we will say so plainly.
